derpy hooves/ ditzy doo/ muffins is a background character in my little pony: friendship is magic. she is a mailmare at the ponyville post office and loves muffins! derpy is most known for her crossed eyes, silly personality, and a fanon character turned canon. she was originally an unnamed, voiceless background character in the show. she became who she is today from an animation error in the pilot episode of the show that gave her crossed eyes and a scrunched up face. since then she became an unofficial mascot of the my little pony fandom. the crew eventually took notice and canonically appears with crossed eyes in feeling pinkie keen and in all episodes she appears in after. derpy became so popular she appeared on official merchandise, appeared more frequently in the foreground, and had speaking roles. her first speaking role was in 'the last round up' where she got referred to as derpy by rainbow dash (i remember this happening VIVIDLY btw).

for my 18th birthday, i got an epic, cutieful, one-of-a-kind derpy tat. i still love it as much as the day i got it!

it got shrouded in controversy as some view the term derpy, and the character itself as ableist. in future airings of the last round up, the mention of her name is cut-out entirely. since then, her name is never mentioned in the show or official merchandise afterwards. instead having an icon of a muffin or her face instead. whether or not you view her name as ableist, i personally still use the name derpy as it is her most popular name and no one knows WTF ur talking about when you refer to her as anything else. it all comes from a place of love, not malice. using her other names is no biggie.
if you know me, you know i have a lot of love for this character. i love derpy so much that she deserves a whole seperate shrine. she helped me a lot dealing with my diagnosis with amblyopia (lazy eye) as a child. seeing a character that was so celebrated in a show i love so much with a vision disability like mine meant a lot to me. i like to think her clumsiness comes from her lack of depth perception,,, just like me!!!! i also relate a lot to her character in general. she IS me and i AM her. anybody else who thinks theyre derpy is wrong /hj,,, if anyone thinks they know this character better than me should die. notice the lack of tone indicator there. i would seriously gatekeep her if i could. i hc derpy as a transmasc lesbian just like meeeee........ actually i take that back my hc isnt actually a hc at all cuz its fr canon. write THAT down in the fandom wiki.

because of my love for derpy, i have quite the collection of derpy stuff. i started years ago but the growth of the collection has slowed down due to how insane the prices on her stuff these days. luckily i started collecting before everything became 60590394 dollars. im still proud of it nontheless. my most expensive item is probably my tattoo LOL. i am planning to only collect fanmade merch from now on. i would literally kill myself for a jumbo sized fanmade derpy plush. also if you own that messenger bag IYKYK i hope nothing ever good happens to you or ur bloodline for the rest of time cuz that should be MINE.
